I know I'm not the only woman out there who has felt this way.
When I graduated from college I was one career-minded lady! Well, after I got over the burn-out of an extremely intense college career while working to pay the bills. I actually continued to wait tables for at least six months after I graduated because the thought of interior design made me cringe to be honest with you.
Any-who...moving forward YEARS, my ex-husband and I moved around a bit with his job and we started a family. With the situation as it was, I stayed home with my daughter and then my son when he came along. All together I was a stay-at-home mom for about 8 years.
Let me just say, HOLY SHIT! That is one tough job. I was all-consumed with housework and kids. Just reminiscing about those days exhausts me! Adult-time STILL involved kids in the form of play dates. Not really adult time. Conversations revolved around what stage your children were at with potty training (UGH don't even get me started on that! That experience almost prevented me from having another child!), napping, eating, or discipline. Not to mention that I knew Blue's Clues songs by heart.
I started feeling suffocated, cramped, squashed, and under-valued. Where was the career-driven me that I used to know? Where the fuck did anything that I was passionate about run off and hide at? There was some resentment that went along with all this too. My ex was at work, away from the kids all day and would often come up with things he had to do outside of work (there are reasons he's an ex).
I'm going to say this right now -
YOU HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO FEEL THE WAY YOU DO.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO APOLOGIZE FOR WANTING WHAT YOU WANT.
YOU ARE NOT A BAD MOMMY IF YOU WANT TO TAKE A SHIT ALONE.
IT IS OK TO SET BOUNDARIES.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO JUSTIFY WHAT YOU FEEL YOU NEED.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO WAIT UNTIL SOMEDAY TO HAVE TIME FOR YOU.
YOU CAN HAVE IT ALL.
Now that I am on the other side of this I can tell you that I wish I had someone to help me have the hard discussions around boundaries, time for myself, and to tell me that it was ok and I wasn't a bad person for wanting more.
Being a parent is THE hardest and most rewarding thing you can be. There is no doubt about that. I adore and love my children so unbelievably much. And I still come across new challenges with them all the time. But as a single mom I have realized that I am a much better person and mother when I explore my interests, fuel my body, mind and soul with self-care, and pursue what I am passionate about (at the moment!).
I have decided to re-vamp and re-launch my business. I am now a Coach and Energy Healer who helps women stop denying themselves of what they deserve.
Think of me as a Mom-Bubble busting torpedo!
You don't have to be a new mom to be stuck in the Mom Bubble either. As women we almost always put others needs before our own. And after decades of doing so it is a hard habit to break. But new and better habits can be made. The life you envisioned, as an empowered woman, is right around the corner.
We are the bearers of band-aids, the providers of popcicles, the kissers of cuts and soothers of scrapes. We leap tall piles of laundry in a single bound! We are the magicians of meal time, making balanced meals out of thin air! We are the acrobats of balancing acts from budgets to schedules.
We are SUPER HEROS!
Right now I'm picturing myself with bullet deflecting wrist bands and a bad-ass cape! And I'm feeling pretty fucking good about being a mom at the moment! I just gave myself a pep-talk by writing this!
As empowered women...
We are superbly self-confident, the wizards of working around stuff, the goddesses of getting shit done, the playwrights of passionate lives, real-life role models, AND magnificent mothers.
I can't wait to help more women get out of the Mom Bubble and stop waiting for some day to live their own lives!
I am offering complimentary 45 minute Empowerment Sessions to any woman who desires a different life sooner, rather than later.
Yoohoo ENTREPRENEUR MOMS! I'm talking to you too! I can support you to find more time and space for yourself amid the craziness of building a business and raising your children. Believe me, there are golden nuggets of space in your life that are just for you!
