Shit Happens

Shit Happens. It's Inevitable. But how you react to it makes all the difference in the world.

Life throws curve balls. Unexpected things get thrown at you. Even expected things that are a constant pain in the ass in your life will always try to slow you down or completely derail you.

Do you let them? Absolutely you do! We all do sometimes. But HOW LONG you let them throw you off track is something you have control over.

You may not be able to control other’s actions or the weather, but you can control how much of an effect things have on you. Taking a few deep breaths to calm yourself and to bring in some clarity and perspective to a situation is a tool everyone should keep in their back pocket.

Take a look at what is happening. Do you have ANY control over it? If not, then can you shift your reaction, even slightly, to let it go? If you DO have control over it what can be done to help the situation? Your initial reaction may be a big dramatic overreaction on one hand, or utter dismay on the other. Try taking a few deep breaths and break down what you can do, realistically, into very small, actionable steps.

Your goal is to diffuse the situation and gain control over what you can control while letting go of what you can’t.

This is not easy most of the time. Any realistic person knows this. But when you have the awareness and simple tools like breathing (seems silly, I know) you may be surprised how quickly your perspective can shift and how you can gain or regain control.

Just a little reality check for you when the shit hits the fan.
